Director’s Newsletter: October 2024

Dear Sunset Academy Families,

Welcome to October! As we embrace the changing colors and cooler weather, we are excited for the learning and growth this new month brings. Our team is committed to providing a nurturing and engaging environment for your children, and we look forward to all the fun and education ahead.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Classroom Highlights: This month, the Cubs & Teddy Infant Rooms will be focusing on sensory play and language development. The babies are doing great with their hand rhymes like “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and exploring different textures in their play areas. They’re also learning to mimic sounds and gestures, which is a crucial step in their communication development.

Our Toddler’s, Pre-School & Prek classrooms will be doing different fall-related projects, from learning about the changing seasons to sensory activities like exploring leaves and pumpkins.

Trunk or Treat (October 31): This year, we’re excited to host a Trunk or Treat on October 31! For those unfamiliar, Trunk or Treat is a fun, safe way for children to enjoy Halloween by visiting decorated car trunks in the parking lot to collect treats. We are asking for parent volunteers to participate by decorating their trunks and providing treats for the children.

If you would like to volunteer Trunk-or-Treat, please see the sign-up sheet in the front lobby. We are also accepting donations of treats (nut-free, allergy-friendly options preferred) for the event. Thank you in advance for your support!

HEALTH & SAFETY:

  • Seasonal Illness: With flu season around the corner, please remember to keep your child home if they are feeling unwell. We want to keep everyone safe and healthy.
  • Allergy Awareness: As always, please try to avoid sending snacks that contain common allergens like eggs and all tree-nuts. Your cooperation helps us maintain a safe environment for all children.

PARENT COMMUNICATION:

We love having the ability to directly communicate with families through the Procare app. However, we’d like to remind parents that our teachers’ top priority is caring for and engaging with the children, which means they may not always be able to check Procare messages throughout the day. Please understand that you may not get a response immediately, and in some cases, you might not receive a reply until the end of the day, depending on how busy our classrooms are.
If you have an urgent message, please call the center directly to ensure we can address it promptly. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation!

FRIENDLY REMINDERS:

  • Label Personal Items: As the weather gets cooler, children will be bringing jackets and hats to school. Please remember to label all personal belongings to avoid any mix-ups.
  • Drop-off/Pick-up: Please ensure you are dropping off and picking up your children on time to help with the flow of our daily schedule. Our center hours are 7:30 a.m – 5:30 p.m.

Thank you for being a part of the Sunset Academy family. We’re looking forward to another great month!

Warm regards,

Sammi, Director of Sunset Academy
