Black Bear 1 Newsletter: December 2019

Dear Black Bear Families,

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! We’re concluding the exciting year of 2019 and welcoming a new year. What a better way to end the year than bringing families together to celebrate the Community we share. And my, what amazing community it is. We’ve had a number of amazing family events throughout the school year. Our thanksgiving was truly a joy to participate in- I hope you all felt the gratitude that Maria and I have towards you and your family for all that you do! We want to personally thank all of you who came out.

November was a busy month and we want to share the highlights before we move on to December. In Science we created a volcano out of a pumpkin. Our favorite part was putting the baking soda and vinegar together and watching the mixture get all bubbly and erupting out of the pumpkin. In math we are playing a counting game. Where the children roll the dice and count and then fine the number and trace it or color it in. The children are really getting good at spotting and reading the number 1-10 in word and the number.

In literacy we have been focusing on making prediction by looking at the cover of the book. The children have been practicing where the front cover of the book, the spine and the back cover. The children are telling us what an author and illustrated are and what their role is in the book. We have started using our tracking finger when creating our sight word books.

In December we will be spending the month learning how Christmas is celebrated all over the world. Trying different foods and experiencing new cultures.
