Black Bear 2 Newsletter: December 2019

Dear Black Bear 2 Parents,

I would like to thank you very much for joining our Thanksgiving Family Luncheon. You are properly so proud of your student’s performance in English and Chinese. I wish you and family a wonderful holiday season!

November Highlights: we learned about farm animals; what kinds of animals live on farms and what farmers do; what animals produce eggs, milk, and wool; why pigs often roll in wet mud. Transportation was our favorite topic in November. We talked about the Categories of Transportation and made the paper land transportation and space transportation for art. We also talked about how to send a rover onto Mars; how to send astronauts to the Moon and the International Space Station and watched short videos from YouTube.  During the 3rd week, we talked about Fall Harvest and how farmers harvest crops; how people use pumpkins and apples in many foods. We also used our 5 senses to explore fresh vegetables and fruits and made a T-Chart named “my Favorite Food”. In Dramatic Play, we played with our toy veggies and foods and pretended as chefs. In addition, we talked about what Thanksgiving is and Thanksgiving Feast. We made the Thanksgiving Cards for our amazing cooker, Ms. Jolene. We are thankful for the yummy and healthy food that she makes. During the Thanksgiving week, we combined with Black Bear class and had so much fun with Black Bear friends together. We really appreciated Ms. Leanne and Ms. Maria for their kindnesses.

In STEM, we learned about what a ramp is, how a ramp works, and why people use ramps. We also talked about gravity and friction while an item is on a ramp and conducted an experiment “why an object can slide down on a ramp without pushing; why it slides down faster on a smooth ramp than on a rough ramp.” Please ask your student about who discovered the gravity! In addition, we talked about the types of bridges and Top 10 Best Bridges in the World.  Your student designed their own bridges using the recycling items. During the designing, they are able to use what they have learned from the lesson of Structure in October, to make their bridges stronger.

In Math, we learned about the names of 2D and 3D shapes, the parts of the shapes, and their properties.

In literacy, we studied one new letter “Rr” and its sound; reviewed the letters Ss, Aa, Tt, Ii, Pp, Nn, Cc, Kk, and Hh and created sight words with these letters; found rhyming words in poems and books; and made a booklets “Scarecrow, Scarecrow, How Scare Can You Be?” for reading.
