Dear Pre-K2 Parents,
Time goes too fast!! We have two and half months only to graduation! If you have any questions or concerns about your student’s development/study and our class, please feel free to talk with me! I would like also to thank you for coming to our Valentine’s Day party and involving the activities with your student!
February Highlights:
“WILL SPRING BE EARLY? or Will Spring Be Late?” We believed that the spring will be late and there will be six more weeks of winter from the Groundhog Day. That was because the Groundhog Day was a sunny day this year and the groundhog saw its shadow. In our class, we learned about the Groundhog Day and made groundhog puppets. Your student also created a Groundhog Puppet Show for Dramatic Play.
For the theme of Day and Night, we learned about how day and night form and what we can see in sky and what people do at daytime and nighttime. We also talked about diurnal and nocturnal animals. Your student also explored “the Day and the Night” with a globe and a flashlight and watched a short video “Day and Night” from YouTube. In addition, we talked about what constellations are, and what the constellations of Ursa Major/Big Dipper and Ursa Minor/Little Dipper look like. Your student also drew their own constellations on paper.
To celebrate Valentin’s Day, we talked about what is Valentine’s and Valentin’s Day traditions. Students also made the Valentine cards for their parents, handed out the Valentines, and sung Valentine songs at the Party. In addition, we talked about what is friendship, how to build a good friendship, and how to treat friends. We also made a Pre-K2 Friendship Quilt for art.
During the last two weeks, we learned about Jungle Animals and Under the Ocean and what kids of animals live in jungle and ocean. We also made paper plate lions, monkey puppets, jelly fish, and the murals of Under the Ocean for art.
In STEM, we learned about Animal Habitats all month long. We talked about what is a habitat, types of habitats, and what living things need at their habitats to stay alive. We also learned about what lives in desert, what lives in prairie, what lives in forest/rainforest, what lives in ocean/river, and what lives in Antarctica/Arctic.
In Math, we learned about the skip counting by 10s, 5s, and 2s and completed some worksheets. We also used our fingers, Interlocking Base Ten Starter Set, and Hundred Chart to count by 2s, 5s, and 10s. Your student can understand the concept of skip counting very well. Please ask your student how to sing the songs of counting by 10s and by 5s and how many people’s fingers can make 100.
In literacy, we studied Letters Bb, Qq, Uu, and Jj and their sounds, and words that start with these letters. We also talked about what are adjectives and have broken them up into lists according to various functions, i.e. their ability to describe color, shape, size, texture, and sound… In addition, we talked about the plot of “The Little Red Hen”. We studied who are characters in the book, what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of the story.
