Dear Parents,
This part of the year is the time to reflect and be thankful for the things we have, and it provides us with beautiful opportunity to teach and model gratitude and appreciation to our young children in so many ways. As they grow older, children begin to express appreciation for qualities such as friendship and kindness.
During most times of the year, we tend to get swept up by the hustle and bustle of
our everyday happenings. This month, we will take time to reflect on what is profoundly important in our lives and return to thoughts of generosity, warmth, and hope.
Thank you to all the families who donated and participated in this years Halloween Trunk-Or-Treat! The creativity behind the trunks were truly amazing and gave the children and opportunity to spark their imaginations. Thank you!
Thanksgiving is time of togetherness and gratitude. We will be hosting our annual Thanksgiving luncheon on Friday, November 18th. We will serve common Thanksgiving foods such as turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries, and pumpkin pie. You are welcome to join your child for lunch this day– lunch is served at 11:30 a.m.
Parent Teacher Conferences: Posted outside your child’s classroom is this year’s Fall Parent Teacher Conference sign-up sheet. This year we can do conferences in person or via phone call.
Scholastic Book Fair: Sunset Academy will host a Scholastic Bookfair starting November 14th. Books will be displayed at the center. Please take an opportunity to look for holiday gifts of books for your children.
Holiday Closure: Sunset Academy will be closed, Thursday, November 24th and Friday, November 25th in recognition of Thanksgiving. To those of you who are traveling for the holiday be safe and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Note: Please look outside of your child’s classroom for a holiday survey asking parents to document what your plans are for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This will help us plan appropriately for staffing, knowing how many children to expect for each classroom.
Thanksgiving activities for families are a fun way to get everyone involved in the spirit of gratitude.
- Make “Thankful Links”. Have each family write what they are thankful for on a paper strip and link them together using a stapler.
- Donate clothes and toys to charity.
- Thanksgiving service- You can find your local soup kitchen and serve meals. You can offer to cook for your church if they offer a free Thanksgiving dinner. Some places build Thanksgiving baskets, and your family could help with the assembling process.
- Thanksgiving Placemats- family members can write things they are thankful for on the placemats and use them during dinner.
At the end of the day, spending quality time with your family during this Thanksgiving season is what matters most. Whether you donate toys, make a hand turkey, or simply take a walk in the nice fall weather, taking the time to be intentional with this time with your family is the important thing.
Take the time to remind your children and family to be thankful and to show gratitude. Not just at Thanksgiving, but year-round.
