Director’s Newsletter: July 2021

Welcome July! The year is over half way done and summer is finally upon us. We hope you all are enjoying your summer with things opening up around the local area and across the country. Please be safe and enjoy your summer.

NOTE: Boulder County Health department has lifted the mask mandate for Child Care facilities. With that said, please be sure if you are not vaccinated to take precautions to ensure the safety and health of everybody.

We are so thrilled to welcome back Ms. Diane and Ms. Maria who are returning to Sunset Academy.

We would like to wish everybody a happy Independence Day and remind you that Sunset Academy will be closed Monday July 5th in recognition of the holiday.

Our new hours of operations will be 7:30am to 5:30pm on and after Tuesday, July 6, 2021. Please maintain a consistent schedule of drop-off and pick-up, check-in and check-out in the Procare system each day,  please do not exceed the 9-hour day-limit, and pick up before 5:30pm.

Splash days are happening at Sunset Academy. Each classroom is doing “Splash Day”, so please look at each classroom schedule for your child’s day. Children will need extra change of clothes, swimsuit, water shoes, towel, and sunscreen. Please refrain from your child wearing open toed shoes for safety reasons. Water shoes and Crocs are good choices.

As a reminder, we are having our staff meetings on the 2nd Friday of each month. This is for staff training and development like we accomplished prior to COVID. We will be closing at 4:00 p.m. on those days. Dates are posted at the check-in area. July 9th will be our staff meeting.

Thank you, parents, for your precautions keeping your child at home when sick or not feeling well. We know the extra stress this creates, but as you all know it is required to keep everybody safe and healthy. We truly appreciate you all.

Summer Fun in the Sun:

  • Protect your child from too much sun. The sun’s rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so be extra careful during that time.
  • Whenever your child is outside, use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. Choose one that protects against UVA and UVB rays.
  • Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply every 2 hours and after being in the water or sweating.
  • Keep children under 1 out of the sun as much as you can. Dress your baby in lightweight, light-colored clothing with long sleeves and long pants. Always cover their head. Children under 6 months of age can have small amounts of sunscreen put on their faces and the backs of their hands, but be careful not to get it in their eyes or mouth.
  • Most of the sun’s burning rays go right through clouds, so use sunscreen even on cloudy days.
  • Select sunglasses for babies and children that provide 100% UV protection.
  • When it is 90° or above and humid, children should not play outside or exercise for more than 30 minutes at a time.
  • Make sure your child drinks plenty of fluids even if they are not thirsty. Water is best.
  • Take breaks to cool off in the shade.
