Dear Kinder Bears Parents, 

Happy New Year 2021! We hope you had a wonderful holiday season with your families and lots of joyful memories!!

Our first semester of the school year is over! During the first semester, your student did a fantastic job, socially and academically. Here we would like to review what your student has learned .

In language arts, they learned Sight Words Level A (55 sight words) and some of Level B (25 out of 55); uppercase and lowercase letters’ names, sounds, and handwriting; consonants and vowels in the alphabet and their sounds, including short and long vowel sounds; consonant blends and digraphs; concept of print and comprehension of literary texts; spaces in print and names of the end punctuation; concept of rhyme and rhyming words; creating their own story books using event sequences; and even more.

In mathematics, they learned numbers 1-20; classifying, counting data, and making bar graphs; 1-digit and 2-digit addition and subtraction with/without regrouping; doubles to 12 and 24; make 10; count‌ing ‌numbers‌ ‌to‌ ‌100 by 1s and 10s; composing and decomposing numbers 11 to 19; fact families; and place value. We will have two more topics to study during the second semester, shapes and measuring; then we will be done with all of the kindergarten math. We will add more first grade and second grade math to this semester!!

In science and technology,  they studied Physical Science: Force, Balance & Motion and the most of Life Science: Animals and Trees. They assembled 5 robotic models all by themselves. There is one more topic, Earth Science, to study this semester.

In social studies, they studied Good Citizens and most of Life Long Ago and Today. There are three more topics to study this semester. They are Our County, Our World, and All About Work.

 

In Chinese language, they learned classic Tang Dynasty poetries (tang shi); Chinese children’s songs and nursery rhymes; greeting and colors; numbers and counting; human body parts; weather and seasons; days of the week and months of the year; and routine conversation in Chinese. 

 

Students’ Highest Accomplishments by December of 2020:

• Remember all 55 Level-A sight words.
• Able to read the texts in the science worksheets fluently and understand the meanings
  of the texts.
• Most kids are able to read Dr. Seuss Beginner Books; One child is able to read
  chapter books.
• Use 3 minutes to finish 27 addition problems and 5 minutes to solve 27 subtraction 
  problems under 10. These programs are called 1-Minute Math.
  · Mental Math: Doubles to 24; Make Ten Facts; and Add Ten Facts.
  · Making a 10 or a double to add when adding bigger numbers.
• Most kids are able to solve 2-digit addition and subtraction problems with/without
  regrouping.
  · 3 kids are almost done with the first grade level in math; some kids are in the
  beginning of the first grade level.
