Panda 1 Newsletter: August 2019

Dear Panda One Families,

Happy Harvest!  Fall is upon us, and we’ve had the change in weather to prove it.  After being classroom-bound on several occasions due to thunder, rain, lightning and hail in September, we are hopeful that the inclement weather will subside and we can get back to enjoying some time outdoors.

Friendly Reminders

Sunset Academy will be closing early, at 4:00 PM, on Friday, October 11th for staff training.  Please make arrangements for your child to be picked up from school early that day, as our staff will not be available after 4:00 PM.  Thank you in advance!

For those of you who placed orders for (or otherwise participated in) the fundraiser, we would like to remind you that the order form is due no later than Friday, October 11th.  Thank you for your participation, it is greatly appreciated!

FYIs

Miss Emily will be out of the classroom beginning Wednesday, October 2nd through November 22nd as she travels to China to visit her family.  A new teacher, Miss Jazi, will be joining our team in Miss Emily’s absence.  Please join us in welcoming Miss Jazi to Sunset Academy.

Wellness

It’s that time of the year again – cold and flu season.  It is our policy that any child who is exhibiting signs of severe illness (i.e. fever, vomiting, and diarrhea) be excluded from our program until they have been symptom and medication free for at least 24 hours following symptom onset.  In the event that your child begins to show signs of severe illness while at school, we will notify you immediately and kindly ask that you please make arrangements for them to be picked up.  A list of symptoms and illnesses that could potentially qualify your child for exclusion from school will be posted on the parent board for your convenience.  You can help us stop the spread of germs in the classroom by washing your hands as well as your child’s hands upon entry into the classroom, and encouraging your child to cover their mouth and nose when they cough or sneeze.  Thank you for helping us to stop the spread of illness in our classroom.

Children’s Cubbies

With the cold-weather season upon us, we are asking that all families please take inventory of their child’s cubby and exchange any warm weather apparel – including any Splash Day gear (swimsuits, water shoes, towels, sunhats, etc.) – for cool weather clothing.  As a friendly reminder, your child will need the following on a daily basis:

  • closed-toe shoes
  • a warm coat or jacket
  • one full change of clothing, including socks

Please note: We do our very best to keep the children clean and dry throughout the day, but there is a learning curve for children throughout the process of practicing self-care and autonomy, and accidents are bound to happen.
